Wheel Throwing for Beginners

4-week class times (choose one): 

  • Mondays 1-3pm or 7-9pm ***First class WILL be held on Memorial Day***
  • Tuesdays 1:30-3:30pm or 7-9pm 
  • Saturdays 1-3pm

For those with little to no experience or anyone looking to brush up on the basics, we offer a 4-week introductory course to throwing clay on the potter's wheel. We'll guide you through the wheel fundamentals of centering, opening, pulling, and shaping. You'll create several pieces from start to finish, learning the basics beyond the wheel including trimming and glazing.

Class price includes all supplies, firings (up to 20lbs of clay work through firings), and open studio time (All wet clay work must be completed during your 4 week session). Please be sure to read our refund policy before registering.

Wheel & Hand Building: Surface Design

Class meets on Thursdays 7-9pm (4 weeks)

**Surface design will not run in February or March. We will start it again for Session IV starting April 3rd

This 4-week class will cover wheel throwing techniques as well as incorporating hand building elements. Explore new ways to add to and alter your form. Create new and exciting works of both functional and non-functional art with a special emphasis to surface design, color, and texture. 

This class is an Intermediate level course and encouraged for students with some clay experience. 

Class price includes all supplies, firings (up to 20lbs of clay work through firing), and open studio time (All wet clay work must be completed during your 4 week session).Please be sure to read our refund policy before registering.

Wheel Throwing: Intermediate/Advanced

Class meets on Wednesday 7-9pm (6 weeks)

If you are already comfortable centering and pulling clay to create simple forms, this 6-week class is probably more your style. We will discuss throwing techniques such as multiples, handles, lids, combining forms and manipulating the form on and off the wheel. 

Class price includes all supplies, firings (up to 30lbs of clay work through firing) and open studio time (All wet clay work must be completed during your 6 week session). Please be sure to read our refund policy before registering.

Glaze Chemistry

Class meets on Thursdays 7-9pm (8 weeks)

Ceramic Chemistry will give you a closer look at the elements as they make up clay, glaze, slip, and how to transform minerals with heat. This class will include test tiles and equations! You will develop your own slips and glazes as well as gain a deeper knowledge into using minerals for your artistic practice. Please be sure to read our refund policy before registering.

Drop in hours

Give yourself a taste of pottery without the class commitment! Come by during any of our drop-in times and pay by the project. Both wheel throwing and hand building projects are available. We also offer a list of ideas if you're feeling stumped. There will be an instructor on hand to show you how it all works and help you along.

Hand building: $22 per project

Wheel throwing: $25 per hour (keep up to 2 pieces)

Drop in hours are Mon: 3-6pm / Tues: 3:30-6pm / Thur: 1-6pm / Fri: 1-6pm / Sat: 11-1pm and 3-6pm (No drop in hours on Wednesdays

We do not take reservations for drop in hours. Drop-ins are on a first come, first serve basis.


Independent Study

Practicing ceramicists looking for a studio to work in? Our monthly program may be what you need! Come in any time we're open to work. Price is per month (partial months or weekly programs are not permitted) and includes 25lbs of clay, class glazes, and firings through the duration of your membership month. Extra clay can be purchased at $2/lb. Outside clay is not permitted. 

The Independent Study program was setup to help artists find an affordable space to work. Artists in this program are expected to set an example for newer students by cleaning up properly, utilizing tools and machines appropriately, and being respectful of others in the studio.
